Janet was the first woman to compete in the Indianapolis 500. She was qualified to drive a plane by the age of 17, which was around the year she obtained a license to drive. After attaining a college degree from the University of Michigan during the 1960s, she worked as an engineer for an aviation company. It is worth noting that Guthrie is one of four women who qualified for one of NASA’s programs. In 1963, she was a regular face at auto-racing events, winning numerous races. In 2005, Guthrie published her autobiography, Janet Guthrie: A Life at Full Throttle.

As a woman who races professionally, it is highly unlikely that she’ll make a mistake when it comes to choosing a car. In her races, she was seen driving a Jaguar XK-120. Subsequently, she upgraded to a Jaguar XK-140 which brought her more victories.
