Barbara Mandrell – 72 – Retired
One of the country’s most successful female vocalists of the 1970s and the 1980s, Barbara Mandrell is given credit for her long series of country hits for that period. For her music, the singer has won two Grammy Awards, seven American Music Awards, and four Country Music Awards, among others. She gave her last concert on October 27, 1997, and then announced her retirement from the industry. Grand Ole Opry, a weekly country music stage concert, has continued to list her as a member.
Now the singer spends most of her time taking care of the family pets, gardening, painting, and caring for her family. She has also appeared sporadically on the stage and on-screen in the 1990s and 2010s. Some of her movie and TV appearances include The Wrong Girl, Baywatch, and Touched by an Angel. Even up to this day, Mandrell’s former colleagues still laud all her work.
