John Amos – 81

Before finding his way into the acting scene, John Amos dabbled in other endeavors. A graduate of Colorado State University with a degree in sociology, he spent a good portion of his university years playing for the school’s football team. Soon after, he also gave boxing a try, even becoming a Golden Gloves champion.

Now for his career under the spotlight, Amos got his first shot to fame for portraying the weatherman Gordy Howard on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Along the way, he also appeared on other shows like Roots, Good Times, and The West Wing. Meanwhile, on the big screen side of things, the actor has had the chance to star in titles such as Die Hard 2, The Beastmaster, Coming to America, and its 2021 sequel, Coming 2 America. Suffice to say, the 81-year-old actor is still quite active in the business.
