Joanne Woodward – 91

Joanne Woodward has played a range of characters during her long and successful career, demonstrating her versatility as a character actress. Whether she was playing a bashful schoolteacher or a woman with multiple personality disorder, she acted with the same earnestness in all her parts.

She entered Hollywood by appearing in Tales of Tomorrow. Three years later, Woodward made her film debut in Count Three and Pray, a post-Civil War western in which she played Lissy. She then met her future husband, Paul Newman. The couple starred in their first of several collaborations that year, in addition to forging a life together off-screen.
