The Oscars Love Them: Hollywood’s Award-Winning Actors
Before the first gas-powered automobile even roamed the streets, human civilizations already showed a particular interest in acting. In the earlier years, actors would often reenact their fellow people’s achievements, like their hunts and other challenging adventures. Well, even though technology has provided more ways for people to tell stories, the nature of an actor’s career hasn’t changed much.
Nowadays, people can watch films by going to theaters, buying physical or digital copies, or watching them through streaming platforms like Netflix or Amazon Prime. Furthermore, besides just the usual cheer from fans, actors now also have another source of motivation. Annually, events like the Oscars and the Golden Globes are held to acknowledge the efforts made for the films released in a particular year. As time went on, more and more actors had the chance to be nominated for an award – that alone is already quite the achievement. However, being able to win them is a whole new degree of bliss.
Not winning an Oscar doesn’t necessarily make an actor terrible at their craft. After all, there are several good and criminally underrated stars out there, just waiting to be discovered. However, one can’t deny that having an award to acknowledge your talents can be a great motivator. With that said, let’s talk about a few of Hollywood’s finest actors who have not just one, but at least two Oscar awards under their credit.
Tom Hanks
Well-known for his role in films like Captain Philipps, Saving Private Ryan, and for lending his voice to the animated character Woody in the Toy Story movies, Tom Hanks is an actor that almost everyone can recognize. However, besides being a popular figure in Hollywood, Hanks is also quite appreciative of his fans. Whenever he’s at public places, the actor would more than willingly interact with his loyal supporters, to such a degree, he’d even have some fun with them – he would happily take a selfie with a fan pretending to be drunk. Fortunately, Tom Hanks’ hard work wasn’t left unnoticed. So far, he has won two Oscars – one for his role in Philadelphia and the other for Forrest Gump – and six nominations, including one for his portrayal of the timeless Mr. Rogers in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.
Denzel Washington
Every time his name appears on movie posters, it’s often a guarantee that the movie will be a hit for many viewers. Denzel Washington has shown his talent in acting time and time again through films like The Equalizer, Malcom X, Remember the Titans, and American Gangster. Furthermore, thanks to his ongoing and successful career, the actor has earned more than enough to support his family settle matters like home and student loans. So far, Denzel Washington has earned eight Oscar nominations, including one for The Hurricane, Flight, and Fences, and two wins for Glory and Training Day.
Daniel Day-Lewis
More often than not, each actor has their own way of preparing for their next role. Some of them would do some research to help them understand their character, especially if they’re based on real people. However, some stars would go to even greater lengths to ensure they do their part perfectly.
Method acting is arguably one of the riskier investments an actor can make in their career. Well, with that said, it didn’t stop most of them from giving it a shot. One such popular method actor is the now-retired Daniel Day-Lewis. Throughout his career, Day-Lewis would go the extra mile to give his character justice – one time, to get into his character’s psyche, he willingly spent some time in prison. At the end of it all, the actor’s hard work indeed paid off. After his retirement, Daniel Day-Lewis had six nominations under his credit, including one for Gangs of New York and Phantom Thread, and won three for his performance in My Left Foot, There Will Be Blood, and Lincoln.
